'Car-nasty' does it again - the 18 must be haunted. It certainly spooked my buddy Patraig who is now heading to the 1st for a four hole playoff with Sergio. Harrington double bogeyed the Home Hole, and Sergio's lip out forces the playoff. Apart from the Stanley Cup Finals, this is the most exciting moment in sports for this lad. Bold prediction: the Irishman by one; though I'd love to see Sergio win it. Two of my favs about to battle it out - gotta run.

Sam Snead once said that accommodation and food at a British Open were like "campin' out." Boo Weekley seconded that emotion today.

"It's rough. It's been rough on that food. Ain't got no sweet tea, and ain't got no fried chicken," said the backwoods product of Milton. Fla., who turns 34 Monday.

Weekley, who dropped two shots coming in and shot 72 to stand at two-under-par, famously asked Paul Lawrie last week whether he'd be playing here, and how he qualified. He'd never heard of the 1999 Open champion.

"Yeah, I kind of stuck my foot in my mouth there, didn't I?" he said. "But if you don't know, you don't know. I hated that I said what I said, especially with him saying just a couple days earlier that he don't get no respect, and then I say something like that, it's like, Wham! Here's a slap upside your head.'"

Clearly he hasn't travelled outside the U.S. much.

"I've been to Canada once," he said, "but that ain't really like leavin'."

Just had to blog this. I was, moments ago, soundly asleep to be awoken by the doorbell. Carefully answering it, I find a weaving well dressed fella of Native descent. He begins by apologizing for the hour and requesting the use of my phone to call a cab. I tell him I'll call him a cab, to which he thanks me profusely and calls me 'sir' a couple of times. Weird as he seemed younger than me. This entire scenario seems odd - so I ask him why he chose this driveway. He smiles a glamorous grin and tells me he's too tired to walk anymore. At this point I can tell this guy is just at the end of a long night and wants to go home, so I call his cab and keep an eye on him from the window. All he did was weave about a bit, sit for a rest and then spring up again to keep an eye out for his taxi. After he climbed in, I just found myself curious about what kind of society we've become? I feel a twitch of shame that I didn't bring him in, serve him some water and a Tylenol while he waited. We're so wound up in fear now, such simple acts of kindness seem ridiculous. I feel safer having handled it the way I did, but nonetheless wonder why we live in such fear of one another. Sad.

RIP:

VANCOUVER — Gary Lupul, a former Vancouver Canucks hockey player, was found dead in a Burnaby, B.C., home Wednesday.

Lupul, considered one of the most popular players in the team’s history playing seven seasons in the 1980s and going to the Stanley Cup finals in 1981, was confirmed dead by the Burnaby RCMP.

"There's no indication of foul play at this time," RCMP Cpl. Jane Baptista said Thursday.

"The coroner is involved. We're still trying to speak to some of the family but there are no indications that his death was caused by anything suspicious."

He was 48.

Lupul was currently working as a scout with the Canucks for junior and college games in Ontario after being in and out of rehab for addiction.

Considered a "local" favourite, fans used to cheer "Loop, loop" from the stands during the 293 games he played with the Vancouver Canucks.

Other media have reported that Lupul had died of a heart attack but police have refused to comment.

I remember watching a game with my cousin (probably in '81 or '82) where Lupul took a wrister which hit both posts and the crossbar and stayed out. He was a fun player to watch.

Had a great time hanging on to one of these ALL day today. Many PSI and a hundred feet of heavy hose made for a long shift. Seems I got called upon to look after some contractors hired on site to cut and remove some old steel and decking etc. Said contractor used torches to cut up the booty. Said booty rests in an overgrown long grassed field. Ughh. Everytime they sparked up it lit. Four fills of the tanker and a fuel run made up my ass time. Lucky contractors - I'm gone for an hour; they rest. I come back with water for their fires and they start right up. Wow - crazy day; but I know Pumper #1 inside out now. And I know what wildfires smell and sound like as they start up! Other thatn that - all is well. Expect Hitchcock to take a run at Don Hay as well. Saw them golfing/dining at Rivershore on the weekend and wouldn't be surprised. hays done all he can at every other level - time for the bigs. Also see the Nucks shored up the D today - trade coming. anyone?

Long time no post - need to get back at 'er. So much is also new and exciting. Boy's only '07 went well as always. We stayed at a property well know to us, and after finally gaining entry (albeit through a window) a good time was had by all. My personal highlights include surfing Porn with the white monkey, enjoying a bat with the young lad, and the most excellent back nine that Sun Peaks now boasts. So I get to remain relatively inactive this weekend before proceeding up to Well's Gray golf and campground for next weekend's annual 'Wellie-Cup.' in memory of a worker at the mine who died tragically last year. This place is amazing - camping, all you can handle golf, and firewood by the truckload for $120. And that's two nights! Can't wait to say the least; sleeping in the back of the Volvo = good times I tell ya.On a completely unrelated note - I'm currently in the coffee shop sitting about 20 ft. from Ken Hitchcock. He's not looking well - much trouble getting around and packing the pounds back on. You heard it here first. Over and out mes amis.
