A rather fun read, very long mind you. Nearing a thousand pages, this is an investment in time and eye strength. I'll miss it now that I'm finally finished. A great story that follows a handful of characters in medieval England who struggle to raise a great cathedral; all the while battling the church, the state and themselves. The idea of building a cathedral may seem a bit dry for the subject of a novel, but Follett wraps so many duels, battles and murders around the event, not to mention a colossal amount of political intrigue, that the book keeps ya wanting more. I'd recommend it - it would be a great travel read; especially if holidaying in Europe.

Haven't read it but he's changed his focus from his earlier days as a spy/espionage writer.
You might want to check out his thirty-year old novel "Eye Of The Needle" and if you dare, the 1981 movie version of the book starring none other than Canadian superstar/uber-actor/father of Keifer/
Donald Sutherland.
